The National syllabus is created to promote an appreciation and enjoyment of traditional folk dance, through both understanding and creativity. The vocabulary and technical complexity increase at each successive level and there is a progressive combination of traditional technique and an understanding of geography, music and culture.
Goals
- To impart practical skills in Folk Dance as it exists today in traditional format complemented by appropriate background knowledge and understanding
- To develop an awareness and appreciation of traditional folk dance within the context of a wider dance world
- Ability to perform traditional folk dances with confidence
- Ability to show an understanding of the background of folk dance from various countries
Objectives
The syllabus seeks to provide a starting point for inspiring further study into traditional folk dance and aims to enable the participant to enjoy a communal form of dance, regardless of age, gender, or ethnic background.
